As leaders from across the globe descend upon Da Nang for the APEC Leaders meeting travel in and around Da Nang is set to get a bit sticky, our best advice if you are visiting at this time is to expect transportation delays and a huge police and military presence.
However, don't tick Da Nang off your list completely, it's a great city and for those unlucky enough to have been caught up in the last summit held in Sydney, you'll know that it is the business owners that are effected the most at this time. Your support will be heavily appreciated.
The finer details:-
From November 5 to 12, all vehicles will be banned from parking at Hoang Sa, Vo Nguyen Giap, Truong Sa and Vo Van Kiet, as well as Nguyen Van Thoai, Bach Dang, Tran Phu, 2 thang 9 and Cach mang thang 8, in addition to Nguyen Van Linh, Duy Tan and Tran Thi Ly. The Son Tra Peninsula will also be closed to traffic.
To ensure safety, Da Nang authorities will temporarily suspend the Dragon bridge over Han River from breathing fire and spraying water on November 4, 5, 11 and 12.
Tourism boats will be temporarily suspended on Han river on November 9, 10 and 11.
At Da Nang International Airport, allow extra time; security will be tight (so make sure you have all your paperwork and visas in order). Book transfers ahead and if possible choose a car (minibuses and coaches over 16 seats are banned from most main routes). If you are travelling between Da Nang and Hoi An, don't be surprised if your driver takes an alternative route than the main coastal road.
Hotels in and around Da Nang (the fancier ones at least) will be at full capacity - there are over 22,000 rooms booked out for the summit alone - book ahead and don't risk a last minute deal.
During your stay, take advice from your hotels concierge or staff, they will know which areas to avoid and when. For those hoping to sweat it out by the pool? The weather is not looking favourable - plan accordingly.
Hoi An will not be experiencing the same levels of disruption. For those staying here your biggest concern will be transportation from and to Da Nang.
