The Perfect Escape:
The Banyan Tree
banyan tree lang co
he beautiful Lang Co bay may take the bronze when put up against nearby destination stars Hoi An and Hue but this unspoilt strip of mountainous coastline is a treasure trove for true ‘road less travelled’ adventures;
coupled with the resort’s array of onsite amenities, activities (Award winning spa and Nick Faldo golf course to name but a few) and VIP access to neighbouring Angsana. It’s the ideal luxury beach abode
in the area
The secluded beach location, languorous spa, epic eateries and endless program of onsite activities make it hard to leave this paradisiacal playground. Should wanderlust hit, the temples and tombs of Hue, Champa ruins of My Son and the colonial shopping mecca of Hoi An are all but a side trip away. Closer to home, explorers and adrenaline junkies can get their hit exploring off road Lang Co by mountain bike, ATV or guided trek. Closer still? Hop aboard the rather cheesy onsite riverboat for Upper Deck cocktails at neighbouring Angsana.
Spa Villas -Make a diary date for a ‘Refreshing Sprinkle’ Banyan Tree’s signature tropical rain-mist ritual
Destination dining- we loved the romantic, butler served beach banquet under the stars
From ‘tee’ time to spa fabulous; the comprehensive activities menu is the perfect pill for rainy days
Good to Know
Runway wide beaches are more ruggedly handsome than club tropicana tropical
Climate -Blustery, wet winters can stretch from October till March
Kids won’t appreciate this enchantingly remote and romantic retreat
Banyan Tree’s palatial reception and dining spaces stand loftily between mountain and sea. Red tiled pitched roofs and open courtyards offer a modern twist on the traditional garden houses of Hue, Regally decorated with earthen tones accented by splashes of blue, the lattice work wall panels inspired by patterns of Hue’s citadel walls.
Lagoon pool villas bag the best views (number 120 hogging the limelight), whilst identikit beach villas; albeit not exactly on the beach, are the superstars here, with superior gardens, a jacuzzi and shaded pavilion.
Bed and Bath
The Villa looks out over a lush private garden, decked out with an infinity pool and a multitude of plush, private lounging areas. A short feng shui’d shimmy away lies three designer dens - the romantically lit bedroom; all billowing curtains, bamboo floors with a huge botanical motif taking centre stage. Unlikely glass panels give garden views where you least expect them (from the shower, toilet and tub) with tropically scented products giving bath tub bathing alfresco appeal, whilst a state-of the art in-room entertainment centre provides an ambient sound track to unwind.
Breakfast is served at the poolside Watercourt restaurant, where culinary stations creak under bountiful displays of belt loosening, world-class fare; try fighting the temptation go ‘Blumenthal’ pairing sushi with pastries after a glass of chilled fizz.
For lava lamp charged sunsets and Thai fusion cuisine try mountain edge Saffron’s wrap-around verandah for the best bay views, or indulge body and soul with a muscle melting spa massage whilst lord-of-the manor fantasies are taken care of via the 18 hole golf course and decadently eclectic Library bar; the perfect spot for a post ‘clubbing’ G&T.
